Inspiration and Philosophy

Just to look out into the skies, you will see your first circles – the moon, the sun, the pois in the skies as planets, stars, and realize a grandeur that can be spoken in a circular language.

The inspiration of the collection came from the pure form of circular shape. It is the fundamental and ultimate form of the nature, from atom, molecules, to stars and the larger universe. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness.

Most of the patterns, cuts, structures of the garments in the collection are in circular shapes to communicate the certain language. Alternatively, the lilting composition of pois represents bubbles of my day dreams, of raging ambitions, passions, creativities, and enlightenments while initiating the collection. It often integrates with vivid, sensorimotor vision with a narrative structure and from there, `Technicolor Dreams` has developed.

Besides the visual inspiration from circular elements, there is an essence of surrealism and a sense of wonder blended into the collection by taking references from collage works by Marcel Duchamp, Hannah Hoch to Matthieu Bourel, Charles Wilkin. The textures are shiny, matt, dotted, layered, ruffled, zigzagged and they are combined with unexpected items and volumes as if the garment itself is a piece of collage work.
